My name is Monica Reid and a little about me and my love of taking photos.
From the time I was a little girl and my grandparents bought me a polaroid, I have loved taking photographs. My friends used to joke that I ALWAYS had my camera so no need for them to have one, I was always snapping away.
When I had my son in 2001 I got even more ‘obsessed’ but decided it to take it to the next level when my daughter was born in 2006. I never liked the look of the ‘chain’ stores and how they rush you in and out then I got got stressed out going to photographers who acted like they didn’t even LIKE children I was always like I bet they don’t even know MY kids name…. they didn’t get on MY kids level…. I decided I would be different.
I started taking classes online and began reading books forums, websites ANYTHING about photography and lighting. I have since invested in the best cameras and have a major love for good ‘glass’ aka the lens. Then my husband and my assistant ;0) Brent got involved and is doing more than awesome. He has a very creative eye and has always been more artsy than I. I think we really compliment each other. He is know more than just an assistant he’s a huge part of Monica Reid Photography.
About Our Wedding “Style”
I believe EVERY wedding is unique and different so I like to get to know the bride and groom before the wedding.
Normally we have a sit down consult then we have a FUN Modern Engagement Session, this lets me see how you really are and what YOUR style is.
My main goal is to be a storyteller of your wedding day where you can look back in 20 years and go through the photos and really remember the day and the details.
I’m primarly Candid and Modern but of course still get the “traditional” posed shots for you and especially your parents.
I LOVE everything about weddings and capturing them for you is a passion for Brent and I.
We get every detail there is to get. We will become your friends, and you can talk to us about anything. We are totally in Sync with each other and with you as a couple throughout the day.
I do this because it is a passion for me and a true JOY! I love working with people and helping them document their life through my lens.
I’m super easy to get to know and I LOVE People! I’m a candid, natural, un-posed, casual, fresh, FUN, real and modern photographer. I have an assistant that comes to most of the shoots, his name is Brent and he happens to be my Husband.
About our Portrait Sessions
My main goal in EVERY shoot be it Maternity, Children, Engagement, Bridal (the sky is the limit) is to capture YOUR life and emotions straight from the heart. I genuinely like my customers and end up being friends with almost everyone. I love getting to know you and your children. With children I interact with them at first and get to know them so they are more comfortable with my camera and me. I push myself hard and the only person working should be me, you and your family should be having fun, not stressed out. I will never hurry you or POSE you uncomfortably, I am relaxed and want you to be relaxed as well. I will get down on your childs level and will never say “SAY CHEESE”!!!
I want to see REAL smiles, laughter, basically the REAL you.
My sessions last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the child, location, etc. If it takes longer that is fine too. Newborns may need a nap, eat, etc. Older Children may need a break or a snack and that is OK, in fact I encourage it. In the end I want to deliver you beautiful prints, but also to provide a fun, custom experience that your whole family will enjoy from start to finish. I want you to enjoy our time.
While I prefer natural light and candid, but will do studio work if needed.
We try to be different and out of the box. I’m an all-natural light, on location either in your home or your chosen location, if unsure I have lots of great locations that you can choose from. I do have a portable studio that can be used in your house or mine, although I normally reserve that for newborns, I like to see Children Explore.
